It’s Harvest Time Already?
Where does the time go?  Hard to believe that vineyard managers, wineries and winemakers are all on the go working on the harvest and what soon will be the 2011 vintage wines.  Take a look at this quick video from Raymond Vineyards located in Rutherford in Napa valley.  It’s an update from winemaker Stephanie Putnam and vineyard manager Eric Pooler.

It’s Still Summer and It’s Still Hot
It would seem that if everyone is back at school and even our politicians are back in Washington that summer should be over; the cool weather should have rushed in right after Labor Day ended at 12:01 am.  That’s just not the case! Given the enormity of the warmth that has enveloped us these long dog days of summer, here is a little story with a moral.  Wines that will help you melt away the heat

There were two additional wines to the list - they received the editor's chop but that doesn't make them any less influential on your palate or food pairing.  It just means there wasn't enough space the word count.  Go figure!

Santa Cristina Campo Grande Orvietto Italy ($12) —Light aromas of flowers intersperse with tropical fruits such as pineapple and bananas. This wine extinguishes that dry-mouth “wish I had something tasty and refreshing to drink” feeling you get when you’re grilling dogs for this kids. Plus, if you decide to have a hot dog and smother it with mustard, ketchup, sauerkraut, chopped onions AND relish, this is the wine to have.

Nine Walks Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand ($10) — As you know, it is scallop season. What better pairing than Nine Walks Sauvignon Blanc and scallop pasta?  The wine is juicy with grassy flavors and bright acidity making it extremely enjoyable on those muggy, uggy days.

The moral?  There’s a delicious wine out there to quench the palate and cool the senses. Just seek that wine out.
